Your daily routine may carry more chemicals than you think
According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), the average woman uses 12 personal care products every day, in shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, cleanser, creams, perfume and cosmetics, exposing her to 168 chemicals. This is on top of other chemicals in and out of the house, such as from furniture, cookware, washing powders and air fresheners. The list is huge, and the number is rising year on year.

Endocrine (hormone) disrupting chemicals
In 2012 the WHO explained that close to 800 chemicals are known or suspected to be capable of interfering with hormones, and that the vast majority of them have not been tested. These chemicals are known as endocrine (hormone) disrupting chemicals (EDCs), meaning they have a negative impact on your hormonal system. Chemicals such as phthalates, BPA, parabens and triclosan are all known EDCs used in personal care products. They have links to:
Your skin is your largest organ, and it absorbs fast
When you ingest a toxin
Whether that's a pesticide residue or an unwanted bacteria, your stomach acid gets to work killing off what it can, and your liver runs a final safety check to decide what is absorbed and what is eliminated. Your body has a system for this.
But your skin has no such defences
It is your largest organ, and when you put chemicals onto it, some are absorbed straight into your bloodstream within minutes. No stomach acid, no liver check, just a direct route in.

This is why, as part of the total wellbeing approach at Lucy Childerley Clinic, I have joined forces with Tropic Skincare, a toxin-free, multi award-winning brand that takes what goes on your skin every bit as seriously as I take what goes into your body.
