Happy Hormone Skincare

According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG) it’s now believed that the average woman uses 12 personal care products every day, in shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, cleanser, creams, perfume and cosmetics, exposing her to 168 chemicals! This is on top of other chemicals in and out of the house such as from furniture, cookware, washing powders, air fresheners, etc. The list is huge and the number is rising year on year.

In 2012  the WHO explained that close to 800 chemicals are known or suspected to be capable of interfering with hormones and that the vast majority of them have not been tested.

These chemicals are known as endocrine (hormone) disrupting chemicals (EDC’s) meaning that they have a negative impact on your hormonal system. Chemicals such as phthalates, BPA, parabens and triclosan are all known EDCs used in personal care products. They have links to:

  • Hormone imbalances, such as PCOS, thyroid disease
  • Metabolic dysfunction and diabetes
  • Weight gain
  • Depression
  • Neurological diseases
  • Reproductive issues
  • An increased risk of cancer.

Reduce Your Toxic Load

When you ingest toxins in the form of pesticides, bacteria, etc  your stomach acid  is normally able to kill off any unwanted pathogens and then your liver runs a final ‘safety’ check to decide what gets absorbed and what gets eliminated.

But when you put these chemicals onto your skin (your largest organ) some are absorbed in to your bloodstream within minutes.

With this in mind, and as part of the total wellbeing service Lucy Childerley Clinic offer, I have joined forces with the toxin free, multi award winning Tropic skincare company. Adored by celebrities, makeup artists and the beauty industry throughout, it’s easy to see why Tropic have won over 200 awards and have been the fastest selling skincare range for the last 6  years.
